Center for Ethics and Law in Biomedicine/ CELAB

The Hungarian Center for Ethics and Law in Biomedicine (CELAB, Budapest) is strongly related to the – American graduated – Central European University, Budapest. In 2005 the university established CELAB. The key function is to promote research and teaching in the field of bioethics and biomedical law.

CELAB assists scholars and students in their ongoing research and represents the University in international research consortia. Major goals are e.g. to enhance research and the establishment of multidisciplinary research teams in the field of bioethics, biomedical law and biotechnology; to analyze current ethical dilemmas in the field of science and technology and to work out policy papers in the field; to organize workshops with outstanding international experts.
The website is mentioning a lot of project activities: Projected Activities: expanding the searchable Bio-Law Database (legislative, legal, ethical and policy documents in the field biomedical law); organizing multidisciplinary seminars and workshops to foster dialogue between social and natural sciences; establishing networks and partnerships with research centers, universities and NGOs, supporting research of MA and PhD students at CEU and other partner universities, publications and other relevant activities.
