Estonian Council on Bioethics/ Eetikakeskusest

The Estonian Council on Bioethics (Eetikakeskusest, Tartu) is since 1998 an advisory and coordinating body in bioethical issues. It is also known as ‘Centre for Ethics University Tartu’.

Memberships are approved by the Minister of Social Affairs for a term of three years. The Council on Bioethics consists of eleven members. The Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Secretary of the Council are appointed by the Minister of Social Affairs.
Rresponsibilities are: shaping common bioethical positions in the fields of medicine; introducing principles of bioethics to the public (also by publications) of relevant information; coordinating the activities of ethics committees on human research and committees on bioethics that exist in Estonia; making proposals on bioethics upon preparing draft Acts and other legislation; advising the Riigikogu (the parliament) and government agencies on bioethics.
The website contains a.o. information about teaching, research, public activities and the international board of trustees.
