National Committee on Medical Research Ethics/ Valtakunnallinen lääketieteellinen tutkimuseettinen toimikunta (TUKIJA )

The first task of the National Committee on Medical Research Ethics, TUKIJA – Valtakunnallinen lääketieteellinen tutkimuseettinen toimikunta, Helsinki) is to develop and spread expertise on research ethics and to advise regional ethics committees in matters of ethical principles related to medical research.

The committee will also provide training. TUKIJA is responsible for issuing opinions on the ethics of clinical drug trials that are to be run in Finland. Upon request, TUKIJA also issues opinions on proposals that have been previously rejected by regional ethics committees.
The committee is set up in 2010 – previously, TUKIJA operated for 11 years as the Sub-Committee on Medical Ethics of The National Advisory Board on Health Care Ethics.
