National Council of Ethics for the Life Sciences/ Conselho Nacional de Ética par as Ciencias da Vida (CNECV)

The National Council of Ethics for the Life Sciences (CNECV – Conselho Nacional de Ética par as Ciencias da Vida, Lisboa) of Portugal was one of the first ethics councils in Europe. The members experience CNECV as a privileged place for the reflection on ethical issues raised by the progress of science in techniques, treatment and engineering.

To reflect, give advice, recommend and promote reflection in society in general are some of the essential tasks and competences of the Council. The council has about twenty members with mandates designated by the Parlament, the Government and other bodies.
