Nuffield Council on Bioethics

The UK Nuffield Council on Bioethics (London) is an independent body that with a critical view conditions arranges for discussions and examination on ethical issues in (new technology in) biology and medicine. When needed the Council will formulate new guidelines and publish about results of their activities.

Nuffield Council on Bioethics was established by the Trustees of the Nuffield Foundation in 1991, and since 1994 it has been funded jointly by the Foundation, the Welcome Trust and the Medical Research Council. The Council has achieved an international reputation for advising policy makers and stimulating debate in bioethics. There are twenty members. When vacancies arise, the Council advertises for new members in the national press, a sub-group will do a first selection of candidates.
